Reggie Bullock
National Basketball Association (NBA) World Class Shooting Guard
Reginald Bullock Jr. is a National Basketball Association world-class shooting guard in the NBA, but he is so much more. Reggie calls Kinston, North Carolina home. A small town of twenty-two thousand people with uncharacteristic big city challenges, Reggie grew up amidst a culture of gangs, drugs and violence. Despite the challenges faced by his community, Reggie was part of a close-knit circle that valued family, loyalty and dedication. Reggie exudes those positive traits and continues to work as hard today to refine and develop his skill set, as he did when he impressed NBA legend Jerry Stackhouse, also a Kinston native and a significant influence in Reggie’s life.
Reggie received a scholarship to attend the perennial basketball powerhouse University of North Carolina. During his junior season Reggie was the Tar Heels second leading three-point scorer, and third in scoring, assists and steals. The years 2012 and 2013 were monumental for Reggie. His son Treyson was born in November, 2012 and Reggie entered the 2013 NBA Draft and was selected by the LA Clippers.
As a distinguished athlete, Reggie started his journey through the NBA, most notably playing four seasons with the Detroit Pistons. Not long into his career, Reggie’s family encountered a horrific tragedy that forever changed his life. His older sister, Mia Henderson, a transgender woman, was murdered in July, 2014. Henderson was stabbed to death in Baltimore. Though the pain of this loss is immense, this vicious crime shocked and provoked Reggie to action and advocacy for the LGBTQ community.
One of the amazing qualities that Mia leaves her brother to emulate is her strength to be who she was without apology. This is the legacy that Reggie lives out as he works to develop his civic voice focusing on acceptance of all people by working to create truly inclusive communities through neighborhood engagement and national efforts that support the LGBTQ movement. Reggie has already dedicated countless hours serving as an ally and friend to LGBTQ people, participating in events like NYC Pride, the GLAAD Media Awards, and the NBA Voices event for LGBTQ Youth and Allies.
In 2019, another tragedy hit Reggie’s family when he received news that his other sister, Kiosha Moore, was also murdered. This violence shook his family and made Reggie further inclined to work to evoke a movement of inclusion and nonviolence. Kiosha was fun, tenacious and strong. Reggie plans to honor Kiosha and Mia’s legacy as he continues his journey as an advocate, activist and philanthropist and evolves and thrives in his personal and professional lives. Most recently, Reggie launched the RemarkaBULL Foundation and LLC to embolden the community and create change across the nation. Reggie was named a finalist for the 2019 Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award and won the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award, and he will not stop there. Lately, Reggie has been investing in the small island he owns on the southern tip of Belize. He’s also been doing philanthropy and other business endeavors in Placencia, Belize to impact that community and the residents. This past summer Reggie impacted over 200 youth in both the US and Belize through inclusive basketball camps and clinics.
On a more personal level, Reggie is a dedicated father and co-parent, investing time, treasure and talent with Treyson and his Twin boys, Heart and Soul. A real renaissance man, Reggie is intelligent, humble, kind, and generous. He has a unique flair for fashion and looks forward to creating opportunities to express this passion point. Ultimately, Reggie desires to leave a legacy of service and civic engagement for his son that is bigger than basketball, one that is RemarkaBULL!
